“Sultan of sourcing spin” Mark Reed-Edwards, joins HfS as VP of Marketing and Communications

"Sultan of sourcing spin" Mark Reed-Edwards to join Horses for Sources as VP of Marketing and Communications

What are we?  An analyst firm?  A blog?  A media portal?  The sourcing industry’s answer to Vanessa Mae? We got so fed up trying to make any sense of our identity, we decided to recruit someone who can.

Mark Reed-Edwards joins HfS to spearhead the firm’s marketing and communications. His role is to shape and define the HfS brand and the company’s editorial content (good luck with that). He will be involved in enhancing both HfS’ research and media content. In addition, he will form a practice that advises CMOs and other senior executives on their strategic communications and marketing strategies.  He will also work with buy-side sourcing executives to help them with their communications strategies.

Mark has worked in communications and marketing for more than two decades, including six years at research firm Yankee Group, where he built the company’s editorial, content, web, and creative groups from the ground up. He was responsible for the company’s rebranding in 2006.

Before Yankee Group, he ran web marketing for Intranets.com, an early cloud-based provider of intranets for small business that is now part of Cisco. He also worked at EMC Corporation, where he was an early believer in the power of the web and started building customer and partner web communities in 1997. In earlier roles, Mark worked in marketing for Stratus Computer, and as a marketing consultant for brands such as Gillette, Rhone Poulenc Rorer and Polaroid.

I have known Mark well over the years and there are few people with his ability to shape and craft research content, messaging and communications.  He’ll also be blogging on strategic communications and marketing at his newly launched blog “Horses for Comms“.  In whatever spare time he has left, Mark is a dedicated hubby, father-of-three, novelist, poet, gardener and (frustrated) Red Sox fan.

You can reach Mark at mark dot reed-edwards at horsesforsources dot com and tweeted @mreededwards.  He’ll start on 13th September, but is probably already checking email…
